About the Addo South Gate at Colchester
Colchester/Cannonville is a small rural Eastern Cape Village nestling on the banks of the beautiful Sundays River, a few kilometres from the river mouth where it flows into the Indian Ocean through the magnificent and majestic world-renowned Alexandria Sand-Dunes complex, which is the biggest dunefield in the Southern Hemisphere and can be seen from space (NASA). This lovely, safe and tranquil village is the closest point of entry (4 km’s) into the Addo Elephant National Park for travellers using the N2 from Cape Town and the Garden Route through Port Elizabeth.
The river mouth is a MUST SEEN, and first on anyone’s TO DO LIST is to make sure of a seat on THE SUNDAYS RIVER FERRY/ADDO CRUISES, our own double decker cruiser which will take you to the river mouth, the dunes and up river for 6 – 12 km, to experience the best in nature along the river, spotting birds and seeking game and should be on your list of activities while you stay over.

The river is particularly well known for its excellent estuarine fishing, especially for its Spotted Grunter (Tiger) runs and Kabeljou (Salmon), the river holding the present Eastern Province record of 66kgs for Kabeljou. Water-sports are superb and include almost all water disciplines. Also an abundant of bird life and boast with more than 250 bird species along the estuary. Any birding persons’ dream place to visit.
There are a Restaurant, local Supermarket/Café/Liquor Store, Petrol Station, Kwikpar Supermarket and Boat launch facilities in this small village.
